Recipes

My whole philosophy is based around educating about the basics and fundamentals and building upon them. This is especially applicable in the this, the recipe section. You'll notice that recipes are divided into categories and each builds on or is adjacent to the base Recipes, which form the basis of all the recipes on the site.

Base Recipes

These are all the recipes, that all other recipes are compiled or built from, and if you know how to make the base recipes, not only will you be able to develop your own recipes, but you'll also be able to deduce what's been used to create a recipe when you see it in a menu, or a magazine. You'll even be able to develop your own recipes from images you see (where recipes aren't always given), or dishes you sample when you're out, because you'll be able to recognise what's gone into the construction of it.

The other sections of recipes are defined as follows...

Compound Recipes

These are recipes that use one of more base recipes. For example, Lasagne is a compilation of Béchamel Sauce, Bolognaise Tomato Sauce and Lasagne Sheets. So in the recipe, the ingredients would be listed as quantities of the base recipes with instructions (method) on how to assemble them to make a lasagne.

Recipes by Ingredient

Apart from the Base Recipes, all other recipes are first listed according to the main ingredients they contain and located in this section. If you're looking for a recipe, for example Borscht, of which the main ingredient is beetroot, in this section, and you cannot find it, it will be because it is a unique recipe and so will be listed there in the vegetable category.

Unique Recipes

These are recipes that generally aren't base recipes, at least not ones we tend to use on a day to day basis, but are rather a developed recipe that has quite a unique list of ingredients or method of construction. They can sometimes be culturally orientated or a recipe that has been norm and developed over a period of years because of a need at a particular time. A classic example of this is Fried Rice which originated as a home made dish from China, made from cold leftover rice fried with other leftover ingredients. It has since become the penultimate dish in Chinese banquets (just before dessert).

Multicategorisation

We are working on being able to multicategorise the recipes but we haven't yet perfected this feature, so we apologise for the moment. You're best bet for searching is in fact to use the search function and either just enter the name of the recipe you're looking for, or just enter the name of one ingredient and the search will bring up all the recipes using that word.
